Obituary

Alven C Nunley, Jr, February 20, 1936 – June 8, 2025, 89, of Creve Coeur, MO was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He left this world and entered God's Kingdom on June 8, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosanne A Nunley, Creve Coeur, MO; his daughters Sandra Reynolds, Starkville, MS and Kimberly Summers, Ballwin, MO; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family that will all miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his dear daughter, Teresa Reidinger in January 2021. He married Rosanne Coufal on April 25, 1959, at First Baptist Church, Muskogee. He was a passionate educator with 30 years total experience prior to retirement. Over his long career, he engaged with students attending Muskogee Public Schools, Muskogee Junior College, Oklahoma Military Academy, and finally Northeastern State University (NSU). He held the position of Assistant Professor for many years at NSU. According to him, one of his greatest accomplishments was preparing education majors for their careers by enabling their success in challenging mathematic courses required by their degree programs. He graduated from Muskogee High School in 1954followed by 4 years in the US Air Force having the rank of Airman First Class (A/1C). He had fond memories and often told stories of his 3 years with the 42nd Air Resupply Group based in England. Following his service, he earned his BS degree in Mathematics in 1961 from Northeastern State College. He earned his MS degree in Natural Sciences in 1965 from the University of Oklahoma. His Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration was from Oklahoma State University in 1982. He was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church on August 15, 1982. He served as Sunday School Director, Teacher and Deacon at Shiloh in Muskogee, OK. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Muskogee at different periods of his life. He enjoyed being outdoors and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren. In his younger years, he raised cattle and enjoyed reading.

Visitation at the Ortmann Stipanovich Funeral Home, 12444 Olive Blvd., Creve Coeur, Fri., June 13 from 12-1 p.m. Service at 1 p.m. After the funeral in St. Louis, MO, we invite you to a brief memorial service at noon on Saturday, June 14, in the mausoleum chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery, 7600 Old Taft Rd, Muskogee, OK. Alven was a part of the Muskogee community all his life and wished to be taken "back home" at the end of his life.
