Obituary

Arthur ‘Wayne’ Lowe, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on May 30, 2026 in Sullivan, MO.

He was born on February 26, 1937 in St. Louis, MO to Wesley and Grace Loweand attended Ritenour High School in Overland, MO. From 1954-1957, Wayne served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Corregidor, circumnavigating the globe by the time he turned 21 and traveling from Europe through the Panama Canal to Korea and beyond. In fact, Wayne would proudly tell his children (and grandchildren) that he was a “shellback”, meaning he crossed the equator while serving on a naval ship, a prestigious, old rite-of-passage for every seasoned sailor. Following his military service, Wayne joined Monsanto Corp. as an electrician, where he went on to have a successful career for over three decades. When he wasn’t working, Wayne spent his time off coaching his sons’ baseball teams and serving as their scout leader. A past commander of the American Legion Thomas Boothe Post 338 , Wayne was also an avid hunter and golfer for many years. A humble man with a huge heart, Wayne enriched the lives of all he knew and will be remembered for his tremendous love of family.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Lowe, his sons Michael (Karen) Lowe and Steven (Annette) Lowe, stepdaughter Julie Gaskill, and stepson Tom (Sue) Gaskill. Also surviving him are his grandchildren Ryan (Emma) Lowe, Sarah Lowe, Kayla Lowe, Emily Lowe, Janae Gaskill, and Kaylyn (Brandon) Nichols, along with six great-grandchildren: Quinn Lowe, William Lowe, Liam Gaskill, and Connor, Aubree and Emma Nichols.

A cemetery service will take place at 1:30 pm on June 9th at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Those interested in attending should plan to meet in the parking lot of Sylvan Springs Park (across from the cemetery) at 1:15pm, where the procession to the gravesite will commence.
