Obituary

AURELIA ESTELLE WOOD TUEGEL

Aurelia was born January 18, 1929, in Flat River, MO. (now Park Hills, MO.), the second child of Henry Harrison & Jerrine (Martin) Wood.  She was baptized at the age of 15 and became a member of the Taylor Avenue Methodist Church in her hometown.  She was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, St. Louis & Garrison Avenues, St. Louis, MO.

Aurelia began her education in the Berryman, MO. Public School but in Third grade, the family moved back to Flat River, MO. (their home before the Great Depression), and she graduated from Flat River High School in 1946 and Flat River Junior College in 1948.

Upon graduation, Aurelia moved to St. Louis, MO. and was employed at Busch-Sulzer Diesel Engine Company, where she met Robert Oliver Tuegel.  He was inducted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and during that time, they were married at Grace Lutheran Church on August 8, 1953, by Rev. Gerhardt Nitz, Bob's Pastor.  Aurelia worked as a secretary at the Pentagon while Bob was stationed in Virginia.

Their first home was in South St. Louis County, but in 1966 with 3 children, they moved to West St. Louis County to be closer to Wagner Electric Corporation, Bob's place of employment.  In June 1968, the Rev. Walter F. Strickert came to their door to tell of a LCMS Congregation he was planning to grow in their area.  As a result, the family became Charter Members of King of Kings Lutheran Church and Aurelia's first appointment was to be the Sunday School Secretary.  Later she became the Pastor's Secretary.  She retired from that position in 1988 but continued serving as the Church Historian.

On May 25, 2023, the Lord fulfilled all His promises to Aurelia and called her Home.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her parents, her sister Naomi Frances Cole, her brother-in-law Harold Lee Cole, and her niece Sheila Cole.  She leaves three children:  Marcia Lynn Glock (Rev. Peter M.), Dale Bruce Tuegel and Donald Wayne Tuegel; three grandchildren:  Andrew (Courtney) Glock, Bethany (Gunnar) Campbell and Jordan Glock; five great grandchildren:  Jason Jeffry (JJ) Glock, Brooks Glock, Amadeus Campbell, William Campbell and Mary Aurelia Campbell; seven nephews and four nieces and their families; nine cousins and their families, and numerous friends.
