Obituary

Aurelius R Henke (Re) was called home by the Lord on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years Myrtle Jean Henke, his Jeanie. Re was the amazing father and supporter of five children, the late Kevin Henke, Daniel (Cara) Henke, Matt (Kara McCombs) Henke, Amy (Mike) Jung, Beth (Mark) Osterman. He was Super Gramps to 14 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Re was a loved brother, brother-in-law, and uncle.

Re attended All Souls grade school and remained a parishioner for the rest of life. He graduated from CBC High School. At 18, he took a job as a lineman for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. His career was interrupted when he answered a call from his country to serve as a Marine in the Korean War. After the service, he returned to Southwestern Bell and later AT&T. He retired at 65 with over 40 years of service as a telephone installer and repairman.

Church and family were always his priorities. To support the All Souls Athletic Association, he often worked the movie nights. This became an important fundraiser. It was here that Re forged a lifelong friendship with Rev. Bernard Wilkins.

He loved sports especially baseball and Indian ball. Naturally, he was a huge Cardinals' fan. His favorite hobbies were cards (with friends and on the computer), woodworking, traveling and ballroom dancing with Jeanie, the love of his life.

Services: Memorial Mass at All Souls Church, 9550 Tennyson Ave., Overland, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2023. Re donated his body to the St. Louis University School of Medicine.
