Betty L.
Tipton
May 22, 1931 – March 16, 2023
Betty Lee Ritter Tipton went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 16, 2023.
Betty was born on May 22, 1931 in Wood River, IL, the third child of Leonard Edward Ritter and Grace Emzed Ingersol Ritter. She adored her older brother and sister, Edward and Marian. On May 5, 1951, she married William Gray Tipton.
Betty worked at G.H. Walker Investment and Brokerage Firm in St. Louis until God blessed them with three children. She became a full time mother and devoted her energies to raising her children. She had an incredible gift of hospitality, which she used both at home and in the church. She prepared meals for her family, and also organized church dinners for several hundred people on a regular basis in addition to providing meals for those who were sick or in need. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday and she prepared wonderful meals for family, friends and for those who would have been alone on the holiday. She sought to serve, not desiring recognition.
Though she only had a high school education, she had many interests and there was nothing she couldn't do. She was creative and loved sewing, needlework and quilting. She loved gardening, arranging flowers, and doing Tole Painting, She was an avid reader. She was a leader in Bible Study Fellowship for a number of years. One summer she even laid a brick sidewalk in a herringbone pattern - a sidewalk that still remains.
She and Bill were married for 57 years before he passed away in 2008. She was the loving mother of Laurie Tipton (Mark) Vigil, William Andrew (Charlene) Tipton and Sarah Tipton (Jon) Reimer. Dear Grandmother of Chris (Jackie) and Andrew Vigil; Katie (David) Spencer, Megan (Ben) Lafuta, William (Christine) Tipton, Amy (Mark) Dye and Andrew Tipton; and Grace, Lydia, Calvin, Naomi, Gabriel, Bram, and Eliana Reimer. She was the Great Grandmother of six. Her strong Christian heritage helped shape the lives of her husband, children and grandchildren and touched the lives of many of her friends and those in her church.
