Betty James Williams passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Betty was the cherished daughter of the late Joe Clark James and Bess Geneva Crowder. She grew up in the community once known as Arbor Terrace and attended schools in the Normandy School District. Demonstrating a keen intellect and creative spirit from an early age, she went on to graduate from Washington University with a degree in architecture.

Betty married her beloved late husband, James H. Williams of Ferguson, Missouri, with whom she shared a devoted life and raised three children. Later in her career, she brought her talents and professional background to the St. Louis County Department of Planning and Zoning.

Beyond her professional life, Betty was a woman of vast artistic talent. She was a noted watercolor artist whose work was admired by many, as well as a passionate and active quilter. A person of enduring faith, she was a longtime and faithful member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Williams, and her brother, Commander Joe Mitchell James (USN, Ret.).

Betty’s legacy of love, faith, and creativity continues through her family. She is survived by her three sons (Mark, Scott and Matthew), seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, along with extended family and dear friends.

The family would prefer a gift to the charity of one’s choice in leu of a gift of flowers.
