Obituary

Carman Morice (née Ferguson)

On June 1st, 2026, Carman left this earthly plane during a thunderstorm after a long fight with brain cancer. Just a few days away from her 73rd birthday, Carman was surrounded by family and friends who spent time telling stories and talking about all of the happy times during her last few days. While her family is heartbroken by this event, knowing she is healed and whole again gives them ultimate peace.

Carman was born on June 7, 1953 and spent most of her young life in St. Louis, Missouri and Belleville, Illinois. She had to grow up quickly as the oldest child of two deaf parents, she spent much of her childhood as their interpreter and didn’t learn to speak until she was four years old. She was incredibly proud to be the child of deaf parents and held strong to her roots in the deaf community throughout her life. She graduated from Belleville West High School in 1971.

She is survived by her husband of almost 37 years, André Morice. Carman and André spent many years building a life together in Charlack, Missouri. Beloved mother to her daughters Brianne Mitchell (Josh), Kimberly Morice-Damhorst (Neal), and Jennifer Atwood (Travis), and beloved Nonnie to Hailey, Violet, Chase, Tristan, and Azella. Beloved sister to her brother Scott Ferguson, and life-long friend to Sharon Crone.

Carman was welcomed into the Morice family with open arms and will be greatly missed by André’s siblings, Sandy Morice, Lionel and Ruth Morice, Stephen and Heidi Morice, David and JoLynn Morice, Robin and Mike Fogg, and Bart Morice. She will also be missed by Roland and Diana Morice, Ellen Morice, and Helen Morice. She was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members who were fortunate to know her.

Carman worked for many years as a project manager in the printing industry, which is how she and André met through a mutual friend. After her daughter Kimberly was born, she became a stay-at-home mom and opened her home to all of her daughters’ friends throughout their childhood. She always made sure everyone felt loved and cared for under her roof.

Carman loved to draw, paint, and do anything crafty. She spent most of her life looking for ways to be creative and adding personal touches to the home as much as possible. She never hesitated to help someone in need, teach someone how to do something, or tell a funny story. Her laugh and light will be greatly missed, but her stories will live on.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Oasis L. Ferguson, Nellie J. Ferguson (Johnson), her father and mother-in-law, Lionel “Pop” Morice and Dorothy Morice (McKenney). Also her brother-in-law Michael Morice, Uncles Vance and Joe Ferguson, Aunts Ada Pearl Reary, Robbie Hammet, and LaVerne Weatherly, and cousins Dennis and Larry Weatherly. Her reunion with those she’s loved and lost was a joyous one.

Carman fought glioblastoma since August of 2025 with very little complications from treatment. André remained by her side as her full-time caregiver, ensuring she made every appointment and never missed a dose of medicine. She received care from DePaul Hospital, Siteman Cancer Research Center, and ultimately spent her final weeks of this life at Garden View Care Center with help from Pathways Hospice. Her family will be forever grateful for all of the doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals along the way who had her in their care.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to Siteman Cancer Research Hospital and DePaul Hospital. We will continue to fight to find a cure so no other families have to go through this heartache.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27th from 1:00-5:00pm at Ortmann Stipanovich 12444 Olive Blvd. Creve Coeur, with services starting at 5:00. Her family asks that those attending wear purple, as it is her favorite color. If you don’t have purple, just wear something colorful to celebrate this wonderful woman we will miss so much.
