Obituary

Charles Kenneth Hooker

Charles K. Hooker passed away suddenly on 24 February 2022 at his home.  He is missed by his beloved partner Patricia Rummel, brother Roderick S. Hooker and sister Christy M. Hooker.  Charles was the son of the late Shirley and David Hooker.  A celebration of his life will be held later in the year.

Charles grew up in Bel-Nor, in St. Louis County, where he graduated from Normandy High School in 1969, making many friends along the way. He graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, with a bachelor degree in agriculture/horticulture.  Throughout his career as a horticulturist, he worked for:  the Missouri Botanical Garden, where he was instrumental in the development of the Japanese Garden; landscape architects and landscape companies building their landscape projects; and then started Charles Hooker Horticulturist in the 90's, designing, building, and maintaining many unique landscapes and gardens in the St. Louis region.

Charles made a huge impact on the Benton Park Neighborhood through his volunteer work revitalizing the historic Benton Park.

Charles will be missed by many. He touched everyone he met and had many friends. We all loved him.

Donations can be made to the Missouri Botanical Garden in lieu of flowers.
