March 18, 1945 – November 11, 2023
Elizabeth Huffaker was born in Topeka, Kansas in 1945. She died peacefully on November 11, 2023, after a long struggle with kidney cancer surrounded by her family in St Louis.
Elizabeth grew up in Topeka with her parents, Ruby and Jacob Weiter. She was the youngest of four siblings, George, John, and her beloved sister, Rosemary.
After attending Hayden High school in Topeka, she went on to graduate from Washburn University with a bachelor's degree in business administration. It was during this time, she met her future husband, William. They were married in 1967 at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Topeka. Later Elizabeth received a bachelor's degree of nursing from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville
Elizabeth was active in several organizations including being President of both the St Louis Medical Alliance and the Missouri State Medical Alliance. She really enjoyed her participation in the Wednesday Club of St Louis as well. She worked as a nurse at Barnes Hospital. She and her husband shared their passion for scuba diving which allowed them to travel to many unusual places around the world. Their love for hiking took them across the United States. She was an avid reader and authored several articles. Playing bridge was one of her obsessions.
She was the loving mother of three children, Stephanie Tornberg, Jennifer Kuperman, and William Huffaker. Elizabeth was also immensely proud of her four grandchildren, Nicholas, Megan, Alexandra, and Catherine. She is survived as well by her two brothers George and Dr. John Weiter as well as her beloved sister-in-law, Carol Dykes.
Visitation will be November 17 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Ortmann-Stipanovich Funeral Home, 12444 Olive Blvd in Creve Coeur. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St Anselm Catholic Church at 10:00 am at 530 S. Mason Road on November 18, 2023. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486 or call 713-792-3450. In memory of Elizabeth Huffaker and designated to Kidney Cancer Research.
