EVAN COMFORT DODD
Evan C. Dodd, 76, of Ballwin, Missouri, died from complications of a stroke on December 20, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born in St. Louis, MO, on July 5, 1948, the son of George Deming Dodd and Ruth (Comfort) Dodd.
He graduated from Northwest High School in 1965. After high school, Evan attended Bible College in Chicago and Community College in St. Louis and was in leadership within InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. He was a part of the Dayspring Community, a group of young Christians in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Evan worked as a carpenter in his early adulthood and later returned to school to become a nurse like his sister Lela. He worked on the telemetry floor as a nurse on the night shift for both Deaconess and St. Luke's hospitals. Evan loved to connect to his patients, conversing with them about details such as the origins of their name or where they grew up. He retired from nursing in 2017. Evan loved Bonsai and spent much of his free time working on his trees. He was a collector of Suiseki stones and artwork, using his carpentry skills to create bases and frames for the pieces. He loved long road trips to gather new trees and visit dear friends. Evan had a beautiful singing voice and recorded a few albums with Dayspring.
In addition to his parents, Evan was preceded in death by his older sisters, Lela Dodd and Georgia (Dodd) Henshall. Evan is survived by his son, David Dodd, and his wife, Elizabeth; and his daughter, Cora (Dodd) Taylor, and her husband, Mark; his five grandchildren, Mhaire Dodd, David Johann Dodd, Isak Taylor, Remy Taylor and Neil Taylor; his sister, Marion (Dodd) Strachan and her husband, Harry; and his two nieces, Melissa Strachan and Stephanie Strachan; as well as his grandniece McCallister Kinser, and his grandnephews Kyle Kinser, Thomas Dunning and Sam Dunning; as well as many friends.
