Obituary

Grace I. Knoll, 97, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2023.

She was a long-time resident of St. Louis, Missouri, and was born in 1925 in Greene County, Arkansas.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Estelle and Clyde Johnson, her sisters, LaVerne Grossman, Jackie Smith, Dorothy Morton, her brother, Kelly Johnson, brothers in law, Hym Grossman, Darrell Cole, Freddie Smith, Bill Edwards and her longtime friend, Warren Simms.

She is survived by two daughters, Patty Knoll of Kirkwood, Missouri, and Susan (Peter) Horty of Wilmington, Delaware, along with one grandchild, Molly, sisters Freda (Jimmy) Cole, Joy Cole, Jean Edwards and brother, Larry (Joanne) Johnson, numerous nieces, and nephews.

When she was in her early 20's, Grace and two of her sisters moved from a farm in rural Arkansas to the big city, St. Louis. She and her sisters told great stories about the adventures of growing up on their farm and she made sure that her children experienced country life when visiting their grandmother.

Grace had several close, lifelong friends, some who predeceased her, that were forever present in her life.  They are remembered often and fondly.

When she was older and not as nimble, she loved nothing more than walking (with her walker) and later sitting outside in the sun.

Grace was a great advisor to her children, by always saying "you know what I would have said…"

In addition, when riding in the passenger seat of a car, she was at the ready when the light turned green with a verbal "psssst, psssst"!

Prior to her illness, Grace was an avid reader.  In addition, she loved all games, including Bingo, Dominoes and Black Jack.  She wasn't above "bribing" the Black Jack dealer at her Assisted Living facility with candy.

Grace had a quiet but determined will.  Not being very athletic, she became quite the resident star for her hand/eye coordination in many games like ring tossing, bowling and bat and ball hitting.

Her family would like to thank select people who looked after her and did their best to keep her engaged as well as comfortable.  They were more than caretakers; they were her friends.

She will forever be remembered as a loving mother, sister, and loyal friend to those close to her.  Grace Happened.
