Obituary

Harold R. Wall born October 20, 1929, passed peacefully on April 13, 2026, at 96 years old. Harold was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather to his family and leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness in service to his community.

Harold was born in Ashland, IL and was raised by his single mother Mary Wall (nee McCready) who worked hard to bring in money for the family while her parents helped to raise Harold.

Known as a hard worker, Harold held multiple jobs starting at the age of 10 when he had a paper route, and he went on to perform many other jobs including gas station attendant, TV antennae installer, steel worker until he finished his Master's Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Which is where he met his wife and mother to his children Lois Wall (nee Warner). They met working in the enrollment office and married in 1961 sharing 54 years together raising a family in a home filled with joy and laughter.
Harold went on to be a teacher in the Jennings School District for close to 30 years. Beloved by his former students who would run up to him every time they saw him out in public shouting Mr. Wall followed by a big hug and smiles grateful for having had him as their teacher.

Harold extended his generosity to his community by helping with Boy Scouts. A dedicated member of the Catholic Church, he and his wife taught marriage preparation courses for the St. John and James parish. Their love and devotion to each other and to family serving as an example to couples preparing for life ahead together.

All who met Harold loved him for his sense of humor and for the depth of his kindness. He would always jump in to help others without hesitation whether it was fixing a car or a house project, he would be there with his tools and know how.He could fix anything!

Harold was an Army veteran and served as a Platoon Leader stationed in Texas during the Korean War. Often sharing stories of nights under the stars in the Texas desert.

Harold took great joy in being a dad to his children and "Papa" to his grandkids. He was deeply devoted to his family and was the kind of dad who always had time to spend helping us learn to ride a bike, camping, fishing and helping with school projects. When Lois became ill, Harold was completely devoted to her care and came to visit and help care for her daily even after losing the majority of his vision. He loved us all through our best and worst times, deeply, unconditionally and without judgment.

Harold is survived by his sons, Mike Wall (Denise)and Pat Wall, daughter Susan Gosling (nee Wall) and Grandchildren George and Bradley Wall and Kate and Ryan Gosling. Harold was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois Wall (nee Warner), granddaughter Abby Jo Wall, and son Tom Wall.

Harold embodied a spirit of love and generosity that knew no bounds. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication and unconditional love to his family, friends and community. We are so very blessed and lucky to have had him in our lives. May he rest in peace.
