Obituary

James Allen "Chip" Jones
April 6, 1942 – February 12, 2023

Beloved husband of Johnny C. Jones (nee Parham); dear father and father-in-law of Bryan (Vika) Jones and Amy Holmes; loving grandfather of Rebekah Holmes and Alex, Daniel, Benjamin and Maya Jones; dear brother of Laurence Wendell (Livia) Jones; dear son of the late James Evans and Lorena Catherine (Allen) Jones.

Many of Chip's friends didn't know his given name was James Allen Jones. But everyone knew Chip as someone who was friendly, kind, and intelligent.

Chip and Johnny met and married in Stamford, Connecticut. Chip was a research metallurgist for American Cyanamid Company after graduating from Colorado School of Mines in 1966.

After seven years in Connecticut, Chip looked for a job in a place where he and Johnny could own their own home. Chip and Johnny moved to Tucson, AZ, where they bought their house, and where both their children were born. Then a former Cyanamid friend asked Chip to come help him run the lab in Viburnum, Missouri. In 1976, they moved to Viburnum, MO.

After 42 years there, after lifetime friendships and so much happiness, Chip and Johnny moved to Chesterfield MO, a hundred miles away. There they found friends in their neighbors, lots of sidewalks for walking, and convenient access to his doctors.

Chip, Johnny, and their children hiked the Grand Canyon (twice) and the Italian Cinque Terra, the Canadian Rockies.

It was in Creve Coeur, at Evelyn's House, a hospice facility, that Chip ended the life he began on April 6th, 1942. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2003, and was able to walk, by himself, then on a walker, until he broke his hip in August 2019.

His brother, Laurence Wendell Jones, was close to Chip, and he was also dear to Johnny's family. All three of Johnny's sisters, Era Jo, Carmen Yvonne, and Willie Frances, also loved him dearly.

One of Chip's friends said of him, "He doesn't talk much, but when he does his words are full of wisdom." In spite of suffering with PD and falls, he did not complain. He was always encouraging. Many times when Johnny gave him a "spit" bath, he would say, "You are my angel."

He is with the angels now, able to complete the goal he always had in Physical Therapy: to walk. And now he can run and hike and speak again, and be enfolded in Jesus' arms.
