May 12, 1946 – August 3, 2023
Dr. James Joseph McEnroe, Jr. ("Jim") passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023 after a year long battle with cancer. He was a student of life, always learning and sharing his knowledge with others. He loved theology, philosophy, music, classic cars, St. Louis sports teams, and most of all his family and friends who he loved so dearly.
Jim was born in 1946 in St. Louis, MO to the parents of Irish and German descent, James and Irene (Lehr). He spent his childhood helping at his father's restaurant, Chip and Plank Room, and attending St. Mary Magdalene grade school. He graduated from Bishop DuBourg High School in 1964 and was ordained at Kenrick Seminary in 1973. Jim furthered his education, earning a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a M.A. in Spirituality from Saint Louis University. Jim completed his education at University of Toronto, completing a dual doctorate in Philosophy and Business.
Jim's love transformed the lives of everyone he encountered. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people past and present, sharing his love of life and Jesus Christ as associate pastor at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Barnabas the Apostle, St. Stephen's Protomartyr, and St. Mary Magdalen. He also taught theology and coached basketball at both Duchesne High School and Rosati-Kain High School, even leading teams to State Championships. Jim served as a special consultant to the St. Louis Archdiocese as well as several other dioceses throughout the US. Jim started his own consulting business and served the Institute for Science & Health as President and CEO before retiring in 2008.
Jim was predeceased by his wife Ann E. McEnroe (nee Conway) and survived by his wife Nancy N. McEnroe (nee Mikola). He will be deeply missed by his stepchildrenRachel Kayser(Rick) and Jason Vitale (Elizabeth) and his grandchildren Caroline Kayser, Sarah Kayser, Avery Vitale, Ella Vitale, and Luca Vitale.
