Janet M. Hawkins
July 4, 1949 - April 10, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Janet Marie Hawkins (nee Burmester), 75, of Florissant, Missouri on April 10, 2025 after a long battle with breast cancer.

Janet was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 4, 1949 to parents Eugene and Marie Burmester.  She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1967 and immediately began her career at General Electric. After approximately 20 years, Janet decided to change careers and gained employment at Afton Chemical, formerly Ethyl Corporation.  She worked multiple positions throughout her 27 years there until her retirement in 2015.

Janet was considered by most to be a world-class traveler.   She embarked on countless trips and cruises to Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, China, and Canada.  She also enjoyed traveling to see family in Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa and Kansas.

There was nothing more important to Janet than the family she left behind.  She is survived by her lifelong  partner of nearly 30 years, Benny Gordon; her sons Christopher and Charles (Brian) Hawkins; her grandchildren Jeanessa Hawkins, Charles (Chelsea) Russell, Alexis Hawkins (Josh Hamptiol), Tyler Washington, Charlize Hawkins, Carter Hawkins and Jett Hawkins, as well as 5 great-grandchildren; her siblings Donald (Michelle) Burmester, Barbara (Gary) Epps, Mark (Irma) Burmester, and Donna Schafer; as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Marie Burmester.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 10 am at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis with visitation one hour prior to service.  Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
