Obituary

Janet M. Klingler (nee Barrett)
October 25, 1934 – February 8, 2025

Janet passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, while surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old and is now reunited with her best friend and sweetheart of 48 years, her husband Otto Klingler, who passed away in 2004, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unwavering support. She was a devoted mother to her son Kevin and wife Lucy; her son Rob and wife Denise; and her daughter Julie and husband Steve Mansfield. She is also survived by her 9 loving grandchildren: Kerri (Ryan) Ampleman, John (Ali), Matt, Michael (Lizzy), Andrew (Molly) and Jack Klingler, Elizabeth (Tom) Wilmes, Caroline, and Catherine Mansfield; one great-grandson, Otto Klingler; her sister, Mary Ann (late Michael) Shanahan; her sister-in-law, Marie Klingler; her sister-in-law Diane Barrett; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Walter and Bernice Barrett; her brother Ray (Jeannine) Barrett; her brother-in-law Vince (Millie) Klingler; and two sisters-in-law, June Klingler and Kathleen "Kitty Ann" Heuppauff.

Janet was a beautiful, loving, and extremely fun person to be around, with a sense of humor second to none. She could tell a funny story or a joke that could bring a room to tears, and people gravitated toward her. Together with Otto, they created a loving family who will carry on their legacy of kindness, love, and shared humor; family was their world.

Janet's children were her pride and joy, and she dedicated her life to supporting and nurturing them. Her wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love were the foundation of her family. As a grandmother, her heart swelled with pride for her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them, especially on vacations to Hilton Head, and they will always remember her not only for her love and generosity but also for her contagious laugh and quick wit that could bring a smile to anyone's face.  She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends, and they would do anything for her in return. A dear friend to many, she had a remarkable ability to make people feel at ease with her positive and laid-back attitude. She had a talent for turning the ordinary into something memorable and fun. She was a lifelong St. Louisan and her generosity was inspirational.  She was a proud graduate of Rosati-Kain and hosted many RK class reunions at her house. She enjoyed playing all card games and going out to dinners with her close-knit group of friends.

Janet's memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her spirit and sense of humor will continue to guide and inspire those who loved her. A Mass will be held at 10:00 am at St. Clement of Rome on Saturday, February 15, 2025, with a visitation beginning at 9:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Rosati-Kain , DeSmet Jesuit , or to the charity of your choice in her honor. Rest in peace, Janet. Your love, laughter, and light will never be forgotten.
