Jeffrey Edward Chott
July 21, 1966 - September 27, 2024 - Age 58
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jeffrey Edward Chott.
Surrounded by family and friends in person and in spirit, Jeff passed away at 3:20 PM on Friday, September 27th, 2024.
Jeff received the Holy Sacraments of Baptism and the Anointing of the Sick, Confession, and Holy Communion before he passed. Jeff talked about death and patiently waited for his parents, William E. and Rosemarie (nee Tihen) Chott, and brother Larry E. Chott, along with many other deceased loved ones to call him home.
Jeff is survived by his sister Lisa A. (nee Chott) and Tim Ferguson.
Nephew: Sean Ferguson. Nieces: Jamie (nee Ferguson) and Jeff Gruntman, Michelle Ferguson, Kelsey Chott, Allison (nee Chott) and Tony Iakovlev.
Great-uncle of Ellie Schafer, Rylie Schafer, Jaxon Gruntman, Juliette Gruntman, and Lou Iakovlev.
A dear brother, friend, uncle, nephew, and cousin to many, his presence in our lives was a gift that filled us with love and joy. We will cherish his memory and try to live our lives as he did, thinking of others. We take comfort in knowing that he is free from pain, surrounded by loved ones, and embraced by eternal peace.
Jeff wished for his body to be donated to the St. Louis University "Gift of Body" program in hopes of finding a cure for Rheumatoid Arthritis as charitable gift to support medical education and research. They will conduct an annual memorial service for its donors, to which the family members are invited to attend.
Jeff was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to William E. and Rosemarie (Nee Tihen) Chott. He grew up in Sycamore Hills and attended Our Lady of Presentation School, Ritenour Middle, Ritenour Senior High, and graduated from North County Technical School in Small Engine Repair.
Jeff had a dry since of humor that would entertain you forever. He would do anything for you. He loved his parents and was always respectful. His caregivers would say that about him too; so kind, respectful, and grateful. He had a such a positive attitude. He never forgot to thank you and he always wished everyone well. He was truly selfless.
He was a musical encyclopedia. He loved Eric Clapton, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, The Doors, Rolling Stones, and on and on. He could name every song, every band member, the history of a song, along with the musician's life story. We loved it.
He also had a passion for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, arrowhead hunting, and camping. The best family time were the hunting trips with his dad, uncles, cousins, and friends. He loved being in the country. So many camping trips for which we were truly blessed. He went to Colorado many times with his cousins and friends, always talking about the City of Salida, his Uncle Rich's hometown.
Jeff also had a love of history shows. He had a keen eye for the facts and this was important to him when choosing his Xbox games and all of the shows he watched. Jeff was an avid Xbox player. He was so funny when he got frustrated at the games, and his choice of words will entertain us for years to come. Like "stuck on stupid." He loved playing X-box live with his local friends as well as those across the county. He enjoyed playing first-person shooters and RPG games, like "Call of Duty" and "Halo". If Jeff heard about a game that was interesting to him, he would always jump on YouTube and watch the trailer. If the graphics and role-play of the game met Jeff's strict guidelines, he would always pre-order the game months in advance and his friends would follow suit. Xbox brought Jeff so much joy in his later years and he would spend hours playing with his friends and this was a very fulfilling part of his life. His friends stated they were lucky to be a part of his gaming life.
We will always remember his love for the Star Wars trilogy and the series. He watched these over and over again, calling himself "a serial watcher." He knew every detail, and we would laugh and laugh at the silly characters with Mom and Dad. His laugher and his love of Star Wars was contagious, and we were lucky to share this time with him.
May the Force be with Jeff and also May the Force be with us.
In memory of Jeff, contributions can be sent to St. Vincent DePaul All Souls.
