Obituary

John D. Husmann
April 14, 1964 – April 27, 2025

Baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Beloved husband of Lynne Husmann (nee (Voellinger); loving father and father-in-law of John Jr. "Jack" (Sydney), Jimmy, Caroline and Danny Husmann; dear brother of Peggy (Dan Gibson) Husmann and the late Steve Husmann; dear uncle of Abby and Kate Dolan, Lauren (Daniel) Heriaiz and Will, Kent and Tommy (Cynthia) Wittmann; dear brother-in-law of Lisa (Shawn) Dolan and Laura (Todd) Youngs; dear cousin and friend to many.

John was a man of profound love and unwavering faith, who cherished his wife of 32 years, Lynne, with fierce devotion. Her unwavering dedication and relentless support was his anchor as they navigated life's journey together.

John's pride and joy were his four children: Jack, Jimmy, Caroline, and Danny. As a devoted father, he instilled in them the values of courage, integrity, and perseverance. His parents, Ollie and Pat, set a profound example of faith and family for John, his brother Steve, and his sister Peggy. John was also the founding member of the "Outlaws" of the Voellinger family, a role he embraced with unabashed enthusiasm.

Known as "Hus" to his inner circle, John was an extraordinary friend who forged life-long relationships and brotherhoods. His De Smet high school friends, Notre Dame comrades, Vanderbilt law school mates, and Incarnate Word community are among the many who cherish his friendship. John never met a stranger, and his sincerity and courage left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.

A voracious reader and life-long learner, John was a man of principles with a wicked sense of humor. With a background in philosophy and law, he could debate any topic with passion and conviction. Inspired by Viktor Frankl, John lived by the credo: "Challenging the meaning of life is the truest expression of the state of being human."  He found equal enjoyment in the intricate depths of esoteric philosophical discussions and the simple pleasures of quality time with family and friends, cheering on his beloved ND, reliving high school glory days or indulging in food and fellowship.

A devout Catholic, John's unwavering faith in God's love and mercy was the cornerstone of his life. As one good friend shared, "Hus was an incredibly good man who handled his adversity with grace and spirit."

John and our family are deeply grateful for all the amazing friends who have surrounded us and lifted us up with love, support and kindness.  Your generosity and compassion have been a source of strength, and each of you holds a special place in our hearts. John will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love and faith will endure in the hearts of those he touched.  Hus – we love you and know you are dancing in Heaven!
