John D.
Minard
March 20, 1951 – July 20, 2022
John D. Minard Jr. Baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection Wed.,
July 20, 2022.
Beloved husband of Linda Minard (nee Nettelhorst); dear father and father-
in-law of Jay Minard, Michelle (Patrick) Bresnahan, Stacy (Kris) Simpson
and William Minard; dear grandfather of Kaylee, Elayna, Henry, Benjamin,
and Lucas; dear brother of Gary (Cathy) Minard and Mary Kay (Dennis)
Smith; dear brother-in-law of Sandra Nettelhorst; our dear uncle, great-
uncle, cousin, and friend.
John loved his wife and family. He always wanted to know what was going
on in their lives and was quick to offer advice, encouragement, and
assistance. His family will miss him, especially his sense of humor and
generous spirit. John loved to negotiate. Every Minard child enlisted his
support when purchasing a car. After the sale, he often regretted how much
money he "left on the table" even though the sales team was ready to
permanently ban him from the dealership - so persistent was he at getting his
bottom price. Despite being a hard-nosed dealmaker, John had many soft
spots. If John could have adopted every available dog, he would have. He
could not resist their cute faces and furry coats. As a result, the Minard
household often revolved around the needs of their various canine
companions. John also loved Hallmark movies and romantic comedies. As
corny as they could be, John enjoyed them sincerely, and he always watched
them with a dog in his lap. While John had some odd culinary tastes, his
family uniformly endorsed his passion for Frank and Helen's pizza. He had a
sweet tooth – too much dessert was never enough for him.
John left his mark on the world. John coached many different sports
including baseball, softball, volleyball, and bowling, encouraging his kids
and their teams to do their best. His passion for golf led him to start the golf
program at Ascension Catholic School which continues today. John enjoyed
mall walking and would sometimes get the ambition to take up running. In
fact, he almost completed a marathon, a feat he was very proud of.
Professionally, he was a Certified Public Accountant and enjoyed being a
successful Chief Financial Officer through most of his working life. After
retiring, John read a news story about the struggles of the Ritenour Co-Care
food pantry. He volunteered to run it, and successfully revived the
organization ensuring many needy families would not go hungry. Even in
passing, John wanted to make a difference. He elected to donate his body to
the St. Louis University Donor Body program, to benefit the education of
area medical students.
