Obituary

Jorge Alberto Pineda of Chesterfield, Missouri

March 2,1946 - June 27, 2024

Dr. Jorge Alberto Pineda, 78, of Chesterfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on June 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Marta Pineda, daughter Marta Pineda, son Jorge Pineda, and grandchildren Sofia Burgin, Cruz Pineda, Carissa Pineda, Ella Davis, and Niko Pineda.

Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, he studied medicine at the Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras. He realized his dream of immigrating to the United States in 1974, and completed his residency training in gynecology and obstetrics as well as a fellowship in infertility and endocrinology at Washington University in St. Louis. After graduating from his fellowship, Dr. Pineda accepted his first faculty appointment at Washington University's Department of OB/GYN, where he eventually achieved the rank of full professor.

Dr. Pineda was a celebrated infertility and endocrinology specialist with a practice at St. Luke's Hospital prior to his retirement. There, alongside his amazing office team whom he loved like family, they worked together for 27 years and touched the lives of so many by helping them achieve their dreams of having children. He loved teaching his craft and continued to do so after leaving his position at Washington University. His knowledge and skills were recognized by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and his work was featured in various media, including a nationally syndicated news program. Among his many accomplishments, he collaborated with a team that helped devise and implement a method for ovarian transplantation.

He found great joy in his children and grandchildren, beautiful evenings in his backyard with family and a glass of great wine, traveling, music, and sampling the cuisines of the world. He was a snazzy dresser, loved every piece of bread he ever met, and could fix anything as our very own personal MacGyver.

Known to those who loved him as "Don Jorge", "Tio Jorge", and "Papa P", he was humble, generous of spirit, and a true gentleman who was always willing to help, listen, or offer advice (or a laugh) when you needed it. He was a steadfast friend, who was just as willing to be on your pit crew as he was to offer you a hand up when you were down.

He will be missed beyond measure…

In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society.
