June went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 12, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Forest E. "Woody" Smith for 57 years. Dear mother of Forest "Woody" Smith, Jr., of Pembroke Pines, FL,; Reggie (Jane) Smith of Bolingbrook, IL, and Gale Miller of Creve Coeur, MO. Loving grandmother of Reggie J. (Kelly) Smith, Julie (Joe) Gatlin, Jenna (Joe) Carrasquillo, Joe (Amber) Diestel, Jill (Blake) Kettle, and Christina (Billy) Jarrett. Loving great grandmother to Ben and Maddie Gatlin;, Savannah, Jocelyn, Joey, Ariana and Mya Carrasquillo; Adam and John Kettle; Londyn, Lillie and Liam Diestel, and John, Bethany and Hunter Jarrett. Dear sister-in-law to Jerry (Pam) Smith of Glendale, AZ, and dear sister of the late William and Ed Oswald, Grace Dempsey, and Dorothy Semple.
June was a proud member of the Wellston High School graduating class of 1947, where she enjoyed all sports and lettered in cheerleading, volleyball and bowling. She was elected Queen of Wellston High School for the school year 1946-47. She met Forest Smith and was married at Kingsland Memorial Presbyterian Church on September 24, 1948, where she was a member for 25 years. The past 13 years she attended Mt. Zion Lutheran.
June was Married 57 years and was a devoted baseball wife and mother to her three children, supporting her husband through 40 years of playing, coaching, and scouting minor league baseball. She loved meeting all the new players and wives every season. Everyone loved her. She developed relationships that lasted for years and years. June was talented, creative and a great cook and hostess. June will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her happiness, and kindness to all that knew her.
Funeral at the Ortmann Stipanovich Funeral Home, 12444 Olive Blvd., Creve Coeur, on Friday, January 17 at 1 p.m. with visitation from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment Bellerive Gardens Cemetery.
