On Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, Kimberly Costelow Bonin, loving wife, mother and daughter, passed away at age 62.
Kim was born on July 17, 1960 in Beech Grove, Indiana, to Vernon and Nancy Costelow. She graduated from Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis in 1978. She received a bachelor's degree in corporate finance from Ball State University in 1982 and went on to earn an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis in 1987. On Sept. 16, 1989, she married Rick Bonin, and they raised two sons, Eric and Jeff. She had a 27-year career in information technology at McDonnell-Douglas and Boeing and worked for many years as manager before her retirement in 2015.
Kim had a passion for travel and photography and followed that passion all over the world, from Africa to Jerusalem to Antarctica to the Galapagos Islands. She devoted her time to local nonprofit organizations, including as a volunteer for the Central West End Farm and as a volunteer and board member for the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank. She also enjoyed walking in Forest Park, Creve Coeur Park and Great Rivers Greenway, as well as spending time with family and friends. She was known for her generous spirit, warm heart and relentless courage.
Kim is survived by her father Vernon; her husband Rick; her sons Eric (Emily Adams) and Jeff; her sister Karen (Dan) Quinn; her brother Greg (Lee Ann) Costelow; her niece Stacy (Brian Hostetter) Quinn; her nephews Dan (Kiley) Quinn and Drew Costelow; her great nephew Theo Quinn; and her sister-in-law Judy Bonin. She was preceded in death by her mother Nancy and her sister-in-law Sandy (Van) Anderson.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 16 at Ortmann Stipanovich Funeral Home in Creve Coeur from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Catholic Student Center at Washington University at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Brain Tumor Association or the Glioblastoma Foundation.
