Obituary

Lana Jean Laramie

April 1, 1943 – August 23, 2023

It is with profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss that we announce the peaceful passing of Lana Laramie, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She departed from this world on August 23, 2023, at the age of 80.

Born to Lawrence and Lorraine Gibney on April 1st, 1943, in Pennsylvania, Lana's early years bore witness to the remarkable and tenacious woman she would become. Beyond her time in Pennsylvania, she resided in New York before finally settling in Missouri. Lana's pursuit of higher education brought her to the University of Missouri, Columbia, where she specialized in special education. Following her graduation, she wholeheartedly embraced teaching, her dedication impacting thousands of children throughout her 30-year career. In her retirement years, she divided her time between Missouri and Florida, cherishing moments with her grandchildren and sisters.

During her years as a teacher, Lana met and fell in love with Jack Laramie. The two built a beautiful life and became parents to three children: Jeff, Michelle, and Jason. Their deep commitment to each other was evident in their over fifty years of marriage, underscored by their decision to renew their vows ten years ago. The couple shared a passion for antiquing, spending most weekends at garage and estate sales, as well as frequent trips to Goodwill. If there was an item to be collected, they likely had multiple of them!  Above all, their deep Catholic faith and spiritual beliefs were a guiding force in their lives.

Lana's deep roots in tradition and family were undeniable. She held a special place in her heart for the Christmas holidays, treasuring family gatherings and the joy they brought. Her admiration for the melodies of Celtic Women was evident, with her attending numerous concerts throughout her lifetime.  Additionally, she really enjoyed the artwork of Thomas Kinkade, owning several works of art and traveling to meet him.

Lana's resilience was unmatched. Twelve years ago, she courageously battled and defeated lung cancer, her indomitable spirit ever evident. Her tenacity manifested not only in her will but also in her heart, left an everlasting mark on all who had known her.

In her later years, Lana took immense joy in her beloved grandchildren: Mackenzie, Alexander, Katherine, Myles, and Brynn attending sporting and other events.

Lana is now in the company of her parents, Lawrence and Lorraine, her cherished husband Jack, and her brother Gary in Heaven. Left to honor and remember her are her sisters, children, and treasured grandchildren.

In commemorating Lana, we celebrate a life filled with devotion, resilience, and an unwavering love for her family. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to touch countless lives and remain alive in the cherished memories she gave us.
