Loretta Eckert (nee Tiner)
Ms. Loretta Tiner Eckert, 87, of Brenham, Texas, departed this life on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. She was born December 1, 1934, in Balch, Arkansas, the daughter of Theo and Corinie P. (Tanksley) Tiner. She grew up on a farm in Poinsett County, where her family raised cotton, soybeans, and rice. Loretta graduated from Weiner High School in Weiner, Arkansas, in 1951. After graduation, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she lived for the next 68 years. St. Louis is where she met her beloved late husband, Raymond A. Eckert. They were married on October 22, 1955. Ray and Loretta were married for over 59 years.
Loretta worked at Wagner Electric until they started a family in 1960. Once her children were born, Loretta devoted herself to them as a stay-at-home mom. Education was especially important to her, so she attended Columbia College of Missouri where she earned both an Associate of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in her 50s. She worked for McDonnell Douglas for many years as an Executive Administrative Assistant up until her retirement in 1998.
Loretta enjoyed seeing her grandchildren, traveling, reading, serving at her church and retirement with Ray. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Ray, and her two brothers, Leon Tiner and Lohnes Tiner. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Bendetti of Newport Beach, California, her son, Scott Eckert, and daughter-in-law, Cara Eckert, of Brenham, Texas, and her four grandchildren, Jackson, Jeffrey, Mason, and Jack.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Loretta's memory may be sent to either St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Creve Couer, Missouri or Baylor Scott and White Central Texas Foundation in Temple, Texas.
