Obituary

Madelyn J. Rohman Oliver (nee Horn) Wednesday, August 30, 2023

Beloved wife of Gary Oliver and the late Robert Rohman; dear mother and mother-in-law of Tammy (Mike) Davis, Mike (Barb) Rohman and Rusty (Tammi) Rohman; dear grandmother of Jami (Jeremy) Miller, Brad (Emily) Rohman, Leslie (Jackson) Browning, Allison (John) Rosa, Conrad Rohman, Kelsey Rohman and Leanne Davis; dear great grandmother of MacKenzie, Sammie, Dallas, Elle, John Russell and Leighton; dear sister of Dick (Jane) Horn; our dear sister-in-law, aunt, stepmother, step grandmother, step great-grandmother, cousin and friend.

Madelyn Jean Horn was born on February 12, 1939, in St. Louis to Stanley and Rosemary (Pat) Horn and grew up in Overland. She attended Ritenour High School where she was a cheerleader. She met her first husband, Bob, at Ralph Clark Pharmacy. He worked at the soda fountain and gave her extra hot fudge on her sundaes. He became a pharmacist and continued to work at the drugstore. They married, started a family, and Madelyn was a busy mother of three active children. Bob eventually became the owner of the drugstore, and she worked there in various capacities, including as the bookkeeper and manager of the front-end merchandise. Bob and Madelyn were huge Blues hockey fans and became season ticket holders early in the franchise's history. Their love of hockey together continued until Bob's death in 2007. Madelyn continued cheering on the Blues because their dream was to see a Stanley Cup win for St. Louis.  Following the closing of the drugstore Madelyn began working for Hallmark, eventually becoming a store manager. Her love for Hallmark and their products and ornaments was immense. A family joke was that she was her own best customer. Madelyn then remarried to Gary Oliver. He also became a Blues fan. In 2011 Madelyn survived inoperable lung cancer because she was stubborn and determined. She held tight to her faith and to the family motto of Slow and Steady Wins the Race! Madelyn's dream of a Stanley Cup in St. Louis was finally realized in 2019 and she was ecstatic! Another love of hers was spending time at their lake house at the Lake of the Ozarks, especially with family. Madelyn's biggest goal and pleasure in life was taking care of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her world and priority! Her pickle roll-ups were a staple at every family gathering. Christmas meant each family got a Christmas morning Monkey Bread and a bag of her signature snack mix to enjoy. She also loved sewing, crafting, flowers, gardening and seeing the hummingbirds visit the blooms. Her life was blessed with family who loved her beyond measure. She was a caring, outspoken, determined, strong willed Christian woman that would never give up but finally was ready to go be with her Lord and Savior.
