Marie "Betty"
Elizabeth Bossung
May 9, 1935 – July 9, 2024
On July 9th, 2024, Marie (Betty) Elizabeth Bossung (Urban) passed away peacefully in St. Louis, MO after a short illness at the age of 89. Marie was born on May 9th, 1935, in Detroit, MI to Polish immigrants, Antoni Urban and Wanda Markiewicz-Urban. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Paul Bossung, former husband Lee Lauer, two sisters, Donna Rinke and Janet Washington, and parents, Antoni and Wanda Urban. Marie is survived by her six children, Julie Lesinski (Lou), Nancy Holzum (Steve), Karen Mueller (Rick), Joe Lauer (Cathy), Dan Lauer (Kathy), and Jim Lauer (Victoria) as well as three stepchildren Dorothy Bossung (Jim), Terri (Bossung) Vetter and Ken Bossung (Chris) and 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Marie was born during the Great Depression, and often shared stories from her childhood, including the love her parents had for each other and their struggles and resilience as immigrants - a trait that has since been passed down generationally. She lost both of her parents in her teenage years, forcing her to grow up quickly. Marie married young and had six children, three daughters in Detroit and three sons after moving to St. Louis. She was a caring and supportive mother, raising kids with good hearts and loving souls. While raising her children, she went to night school, and after a few years earned a CPS – Certified Professional Secretary, one of her proudest moments. She worked for many years as an office manager keeping everyone in line with structure and her organizational skills. After her divorce, she met and married Paul, and they celebrated 38 years. Together, they enjoyed many memories and special times with family and friends at home in St. Louis and in her and Paul's condo in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. Marie and Paul's favorite hobby was fishing, and she often reeled in the biggest fish of the day. She also loved traveling the world with Paul, reading books, watching movies, journaling, and cherished her time spent with her children and grandchildren. Her most recent passion was exploring her Polish ancestry, a true gift to the whole family. Marie will be sorely missed by many, but we will forever cherish the memories and unconditional love she left behind in our hearts.
