Marjorie Evelyn
Chance
August 11, 1925 – November 13, 2025
Marjorie Evelyn Chance (Johnson), born August 11, 1925, life ended peacefully on November 13, 2025, surrounded by her son (Gary Chance) and eldest granddaughter (Sarah Day). She closed her eyes here on Earth but opened them to the Lord. Marjorie attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
She spent the last 30 years widowed after the death of her late husband Herbert Raymond Chance. They made many memories together including their favorite trips down to Mustang Island every winter. Together, Raymond and Marjorie share two sons, Gary R. Chance (wife
Rosemary Chance) and Herbert D. Chance, and one daughter, Sharon K. Chance. Along with three children, they share a collective of 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 8 great- great grandchildren. Proceeded in Marjorie's death was her husband Raymond Chance, parents George and Neva Johnson, siblings Norris Johnson and Fay Edwards, and many other family and friends. It would be a dishonor to not recognize the blueprint she has left on all her loved ones as she was the longest living in her generation.
Her extended life gave opportunity to those around her to truly know Marjorie. Although she grew up in Ava, Missouri on the farm, there was no way the country life was for her. Moving to St. Louis, Missouri, Marjorie and Raymond united in marriage May 29, 1943. Besides being an amazing mother, she worked in many accounting firms throughout St. Louis until she worked at the ultimate job – retirement. Some know Marjorie for her Sweden vacations and the many stories that followed, some know her for her quick wit, some know her for her next-level Rummikub game skills, some know her for the countless laughs until she cried, or maybe as the sharpest lady in the room. But I guarantee everyone knows Marjorie for her heart. Always giving, always caring, and always loving her family and neighbors. When we look at a sunset over the ocean, or a petite woman wearing high heels, or a lady talking on speaker-phone, or the famous chocolate fudge, or when we go for a long walk, we will
think of you, Mama.
