Obituary

Mark A. Koestner
June 13, 1951 – June 4, 2025

Baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection, Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Beloved husband of Lynne Koestner (nee Hanks); dear father and father-in-law of Kevin (Suzanne) Koestner; loving grandfather of Aubrey and Nikolas Koestner; dear son of the late Joseph and Margaret Koestner; dear brother of John (Ann) Koestner, Paul (Tara) Koestner, Mary Jo (David) Baras, Rita (Bob) Pratt, Gregg Koestner and Carl (Shelli) Koestner; dear brother-in-law of Patricia (late Richard) Funk; our dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend.

Mark was born and raised in Burlington, Iowa, in a loving and close-knit family. That deep familial bond remained strong throughout his life, as he and his siblings continued to share a close relationship.

From an early age, Mark's grandfather nurtured in him a lifelong love of baseball. He played Little League as a child, then continued on the baseball teams at Notre Dame High School and Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Mark's passion for sports extended beyond the diamond—he was also an active member of his high school's basketball and cross-country teams.

Following his graduation from Benedictine College, Mark built a career in the food industry as a purchasing manager. He worked for several well-known companies, including National Supermarkets, Parmalat (Mrs. Alison's Cookies) and CKE Industries (Hardee's). Beyond his professional career, Mark remained connected to sports through coaching his son and his longtime service as a high school basketball official. In recognition of his commitment, he was honored by MHSSA in the 2021–22 season for 25 years of officiating.

Yet above all else, Mark's greatest source of joy was his family. He took immense pride in the lives and accomplishments of his son and grandchildren, cherishing every moment shared with them.
