Obituary

In Loving Memory of Marlene Ann Skaggs
December 28, 1934 - October 13, 2026

Our beautiful mother, Marlene Ann Skaggs, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2026, at the age of 91, surrounded by her loving family. Her life was filled with love, comfort, adventure, and the pure joy of family and friends.

Marlene was raised by her fiercely devoted mother, Florence Samuels, who instilled in her a foundation of grace. Married at a young age, Marlene raised a family while co-running a successful business alongside our father, Kenneth Skaggs. She was warmly embraced by her in-laws, James and Ruth Skaggs, becoming an integral part of a vibrant extended family alongside E.J. and his wife Elvie, and Janet and her husband Gene.

Though not known as a chef, Marlene brought everyone together each night for family dinner with help from her mother. Her kitchen is fondly remembered for legendary favorites like Old Settlers Beans, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes, and chili. Any outing with Marlene inevitably included lunch, as she always cleverly worked a meal into every trip.

Marlene possessed a vibrant spirit of adventure that took her across the globe to Australia, China, Europe, Russia, and beyond. She enjoyed winter escapes to Naples, Florida, walking the beach and taking her grandchildren to Jungle Larry’s. At home, she was an avid golfer who shared many seasons of laughter in her ladies' 9-hole group.

Her deep love for animals was central to who she was—a passion she passed on to her children by welcoming dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, chickens, a rooster, and even three little pigs into their home.

Family occasions, birthdays, and holidays brought her immense joy. Christmas was an absolute favorite, where she led an annual White Elephant gift exchange filled with laughter. In her later years, she treasured her happy hour tradition—enjoying a glass of wine at Bristol's and sharing the weekly lobster special with her grandson, Tony.

She leaves behind a family that will forever honor her memory, including her children Gail Muccigrosso, (Mark), Kenneth "Bo" Skaggs, (Linda), Jane Oberman, (the late Mark) and Sharon Reiss, (and the late Michael), as well as her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nephews. She joins her devoted mother Florence, our father Kenneth, her in-laws James and Ruth, her niece Jeannine and nephew Dan as well as the loved ones who preceded her in eternal peace.

Please join us to celebrate Marlene's life.
