Obituary

Mary Joy Sellenriek passed away and ascended into the hands of our Lord on September 22nd, 2022.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Neil, brother Michael, Sons Brad (wife Anne), Drew (wife Sheila), and Daughter Sally. She was the loving grandmother to five cherished grandchildren, Kate,
Madison, Tim, Jack, and Will Sellenriek. She was preceded in death by parents Joe and Mary Bacigalupo, and brothers Joe and John.

"Mame", as she named herself upon becoming a grandmother, graduated from Rosati Kain high school in 1954 and became a flight attendant for TWA airlines. She met her husband Neil at a party and he said to himself that night, this is the woman I am going to marry, and they did in 1961.

Mary is defined by her life of service and giving to others. Her guiding light was her strength and devotion to her faith. She was the rock in the Sellenriek family and a shining light to all she touched. Mary and Neil's unconditional love and commitment to each other and their family, was as enduring as it was beautiful.

One of her and Neil's greatest joys was watching their kids, grandkids, and friends spend weekends at their family farm in New Haven, Missouri. Oh the laughs and good times that have been had at this special place.

As a daily communicant and member of Ascension parish for over 60 years, she found strength and comfort in her faith. Whether it be her weekly meals she made for the poor, her donations to countless charities, or taking her grandchildren to comfort the needy, instilling in them the value of service to others.

In continuance of her lifelong devotion of giving to others, Mary's final selfless earthly gift was to donate her body to SLU's School of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Patrick's Center or Birth Right, as these were both charitable organizations Mary strongly believed in. There will be a celebration of this truly wonderful life at Ascension parish on Friday October 14th at 10:30 AM followed by a reception at Bishops Post from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
