Melvin Cletus Klump
January 13, 1929 - November 2, 2026

Melvin Cletus Klump age 97, of Overland, Missouri, entered into the presence of our Heavenly Father on November 2, 2026.

Born on January 13, 1929, in Perryville, Missouri, the oldest son of Cletus and Stella Klump’s eight children. Mel lived a life defined by faith, family and hard work. His childhood years were spent on the family farm during the post-depression years, which instilled in him his work ethic and mindset for the remainder of his life. He graduated from St. Vincent’s High School, served in the military and attended Bailey Technical School on the GI Bill, where he learned Deisel Truck Mechanics and Electrical Design. He built a career as an Electrical Engineer in the composite can manufacturing business at R. C. Can Company, later Boise Cascade Container Corporation, from where he retired after 30+ years. He concluded his career at the age of 83 at Universal Packaging Corporation.

On April 11, 1953 he married the love of his life, Catherine Klump (nee. Winschel), with whom he shared 66 years of marriage rooted in the Catholic Faith. Mel and Cathy were faithful parishioners of All Souls Roman Catholic Church in Overland, Missouri for over 60 years. They lived their entire adult lives a block from the church. For multiple years, Mel maintained the church grounds and did the electrical design and installation for the annual parish festival. At the pastor’s request he also volunteered to do several maintenance projects for the church. Mel was life long member of the Knights of Columbus in his hometown of Perryville.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Klump (nee. Winschel), his parents and his seven siblings. His legacy lives on through his children Charlotte Thompson (Dennis), Mike Klump (Pam) and Ken Klump (Mary), 10 grandchildren Amy Shupe (Adam), Jonathan Thompson (Michelle), Anna Motz (Matthew), Jeffrey Thompson, Katelyn, Andrew and Madeleine Klump, August Klump (Mary Kate), Corinne Ochterbeck (Brandon) and Adam Klump and 9 great-grandchildren Ryan, Vera, Oliver, Claire, Audrey, Lucille, Nathaniel, Rex and Hazel.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5 from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the Ortmann Funeral Home, 9222 Lackland Rd, Overland, MO followed by a 10 a.m. funeral mass at All Souls Church, 9550 Tennyson Ave., Overland, MO. Graveside service will be at Saint Michael Cemetery in Apple Creek, Missouri at 3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mel’s memory to the All Souls’ Society of St. Vincent De Paul.
