Obituary

Michael Sullivan, 75, died Sunday, October 15, 2023, peacefully while in the care of his friends at the Dolan House. Michael is survived by loving wife Donna Sullivan; Son Kyle (Amy) Schnettgoecke; and 3 beautiful grandchildren Charlotte, Kyle (KJ) and Owen.

Michael was born to Thedford and Maureen Sullivan on October 6, 1948, in North Kansas City, MO. As an only child, Michael developed a strong sense of independence at a young age. He and Maureen had a special relationship that would continue throughout their lives. Raised in Kansas City and eventually graduating from North Kansas City High School, Michael's proudest moment was earning his designation as an Eagle Scout. After graduating high school, he would make his way to the University of Missouri. He graduated with BA in Sociology and MA in Public Administration. Always a fantastic student, it was the time away from the classroom that would have the most lasting impact. It was at Mizzou that Michael developed his lifelong passion for sports. He could always be found catching a game, sports section under his arm, and cheering on his team. The Missouri Tigers, Kansas City Chiefs and later in life, TCU Horned Frogs, had a special place in his heart. Post graduation, continuing to build upon his Eagle Scout experience,he served his country and joined the Army Reserves.

His professional career would start in Kansas City and later relocate to Dallas, TX. Michael worked in health care finance, assisting hospitals and medical facilities. Climbing the corporate later, Michael would spend a 20-year career at General Electric and retire as the Vice President of Medical Systems. With a territory spanning numerous states, regular work travel became part of his routine. On the road (and to occupy his time) Michael became an avid collector of t-shirts and tennis shoes. His collection was vast and colorful, taking up a large portion of his basement, and detailed a life on the road and sense of style. A sneakerhead before his time!

Traveling for work would lead Michael to the best thing in his life, Donna. They would meet while Michael was on a work trip in St. Louis. A long-distance courtship ensued and the two would eventually marry. Donna and Michael were a perfect match. She embraced his passion for British mystery novels and TV. While he always enjoyed her shopping trips to TJ Maxx or Home Goods. Michael cherished Donna and the life they built together. Having never been a father, Donna brought along a life experience Micheal was unprepared for…. grandchildren! Once Charlotte was born Michael quickly learned to love his new title, Papa. Spending countless Fridays together, Charlotte, KJ and Owen quickly showed Papa what unconditional love felt like and he never missed an opportunity to spend time with them.

Michael was a loving husband, grandfather, and friend. He loved Donna to the moon and back (and back). His smile and sense of humor would light up a room. He will be missed dearly.
