Obituary

Mildred Marie Hoxie (nee Amos) January 15, 1927 - December 28, 2025

Beloved wife of the late Franklin C. Hoxie; dear mother and mother-in-law of Margaret (Deen) Kaplan; loving grandmother of Joshua (Serena) Kaplan and Jonathan Kaplan; loving great grandmother of Caleb; dear cousin of Fred (Lorrie) Meier; dear great aunt, cousin and friend to many. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents Martin F. Amos and Mary C. (Meier) Amos, brother Norman (Opal) Amos and sister Irene Amos.

Mildred was born in Jackson, Missouri. A graduate of Cape Central High School and a student at Southeast Missouri State College, she taught at Sandy Ridge School, a one room schoolhouse before completing her degree in education. She then taught elementary school in both Peoria, Illinois and University City, Missouri. A longtime resident of St. Louis Mildred was active in her church and community and enjoyed a lifetime of family and friends, church choir, Quilters and Crafters, card games and travel with her husband Frank. As a beloved grandma she could always be counted on to play one more game or read one more book. Mildred lived the last years of her life near her daughter and family in Arlington, Virginia. Her family and friends were important to her and she especially enjoyed time with her grandsons and visits with friends old and new. Mildred's life was a testimony to both loving family and friends well and to a long life faithfully lived.
