Nadine K.
Boyd
Sep 28, 1955 — Nov 15, 2019
Nadine Kay Boyd
Nadine Boyd was relieved of her hard-fought battle with cancer in the early hours of Friday, November 15, 2019, at the age of 64, sleeping peacefully next to her only child, Natalie—listening to music and wrapped in her favorite blankets from home.
Nadine was born on September 28, 1955, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and would later go on to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she achieved a master's degree in speech and language. Aside from being a model teacher in her early years, she later applied her education to help children with learning disabilities.
She is preceded in death by her dear father, Jim Gilmer, as well as her beloved grandparents. She is survived by her mother, Nancy Gilmer; brother and sisters, Lee Gilmer, Laurel Thomas, Mary Lasley; daughter Natalie Boyd, as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Nadine Boyd was often referred to as 'an angel on earth' and had a passion for helping others, as she could typically be found volunteering for various organizations such as Wings of Hope and Joy FM as well as a devotion to her prayer groups and friends at St. Louis Family Church. Otherwise, she could be found watching movies with her daughter, or humming around the store—a telltale sign that "she was just happy, and she couldn't help it."
Her love for her family and friends was evident in her everyday life, but became particularly clear when her daughter discovered that she has never thrown away a card that was sent to her—no matter the holiday, occasion, person, or purpose. Not to mention, she always had an incredible knack for showing up with handwritten prayers on notecards, with meticulously chosen scripture to meet the needs of both the friend and their specific situation.
To all who knew her, Nadine's incredible laugh, bright smile, compassionate nature, and energy for life was infectious to all those around her. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of meeting her.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to honor Nadine's commitment to helping others. See the foundations below, or donate to the non-profit of your choice:
