Friel
January 26, 1938 – April 4, 2026
Patricia M. Friel (nee Stealey), born January 26, 1938, entered into eternal life on April 4, 2026, at the age of 88. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend, Pat was deeply cherished by her family, who were her greatest joy.
She married Daniel Friel, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in St. Louis on April 25, 1959. They shared 31 years of marriage until his death in 1990. Pat was also preceded in death by her brother, Chuck Stealey, and her granddaughter, Caoimhe Callanan.
Pat is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Callanan (Jim), Maureen Walter (Aaron), and Colleen Murphy (David). She is also survived by her brother, Jim Stealey (Becky).
She leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Samantha DiRaimondo (John), Lauren Murphy, Meghan Westbrook (Shane), Erin Simpson (David), Shannon Murphy, Kelsey Westphal (Nick), Ryan Murphy (Jill), Mary Murphy, Conor Walter, Keira Walter, and Brendan Callanan; along with ten great-grandchildren: Daniel, Avery, and Anthony DiRaimondo; Margaret, Delia, and Patrick Simpson; Audrey and Edward Westphal; and Sadie and Summer Westbrook.
Pat was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Robert and Elizabeth (Palazzolo) Stealey. She attended St. Mark's Grade School and Soldan High School. She was an active parishioner and volunteered as a school secretary at All Souls Catholic School. After raising her three daughters, she returned to work and later retired as a secretary for the Department of the Army.
Pat was a dedicated mother and grandmother who never missed a moment, countless dance recitals, soccer games, school events, and everything in between. She loved thrift stores, yard sales, finding a great deal, dining out, playing games, and watching television. She was a loyal Aaron Rodgers fan and never missed an episode of America's Got Talent or Dancing with the Stars.
Pat was loved by all who knew her, and she especially cherished her dear friend, Sue LaBeau. Their weekly trips together, always in search of hidden treasures at their favorite thrift stores, brought her so much joy in her later years.
She will always be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, and deep love for her family and friends.
