Paul Emmett
West Jr.
September 2, 1949 – February 14, 2024
Paul Emmett West Jr. (September 2, 1949 - February 14, 2024) age 74, of St. Louis, MO, strengthened by the sacraments, passed away on February 14, 2024. Born on September 2, 1949, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a dear friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Paul was a dedicated individual who always put the needs of others before his own. He had a warm and generous spirit, and his loyalty knew no bounds. Known as a father figure to many, Paul instilled in others a sense of generosity and loyalty, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always up for a prank, joke, or funny story, brightening the lives of those around him. Throughout his life, Paul pursued various career paths, including working as a laborer at General Cable, a Teamster at Anheuser Busch (Local 688), a truck driver, owner of P. West Trucking Company, a restaurant owner, and a bar owner. He was an entrepreneur at heart, always seeking new opportunities and challenges.
Paul's memory will be cherished by his beloved wife of 55 years, Rosemary (Bequette) West; his daughter, Mary Anne (West) Barnhart; his granddaughter, Krystal (West, Lawson) George; his grandsons, Robert Lawson and Nicholas Barnhart; his step-grandsons, Joshua Barnhart and Jacob Barnhart; his sisters, Sandy Kay (Eldridge) Huebner, Bonita (Goodwater) Campbell, Barbara Henrietta (Goodwater) Roksandich, and Becky Helen (Goodwater) Sumstead; a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul E. West Sr.; his mother, Priska Joan (Clark, West) Goodwater; his sisters, Kathryn Nancy West and Beverly Heidi (Goodwater) Schmitz; his son-in-law, Michael Barnhart; and his beloved nephew, Robert Welby.
Paul found solace and strength in his faith. He converted to Catholicism, taking classes in secret in order to surprise his wife, who was born Catholic. He knew the importance of a good Catholic education, making sure his daughter and grandchildren went to Catholic Schools. He made sure that all his family made it to church every Sunday. He was a great support and very proud of his daughter and grandchildren who all live a life of service. Paul Emmett West Jr. will forever remain in our hearts, and his legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire us all. May he rest in peace.
