Obituary

Richard David Haberstroh Jr. passed away on April 1, 2026. Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Richard was the beloved son of Richard and Patricia Haberstroh.

He was a devoted father to Brandon Haberstroh, a proud stepfather to Christina Fitzgerald and Garrett Willman, and the loving fiancé of Dr. Renee Mullen. He was a cherished brother to Michelle Johnson and Stacy Haberstroh and a caring uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Richard graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory School and went on to attend Hillsdale College, where he briefly played football. He later continued his education at the University of Missouri, St. Louis, while working in insurance.

During this time, Richard pursued bodybuilding with passion and discipline, earning first place in the Mr. Missouri Heavyweight competition
in 1995. In 1997, his son was born, a turning point Richard often joked "ended" his bodybuilding career—but in truth, it marked the beginning of his greatest role: being a father.

He went on to build a successful insurance agency over the next decade, personally mentoring more than 200 agents and leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with.

Following a kidney transplant in 2020, Richard transitioned into semi-retirement. He remained active in the Chaminade Alumni Board, enjoyed traveling the world with his beloved Yorkie, Bear, and never passed up the chance to sit down for what he called a "good protein" meal.

He will be dearly missed, but the stories and memories he gave us will continue to live on. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make donations to The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital to support innovative transplant research, education, and patient care.
