Obituary

Richard ("Dick") Einig, 90, died Friday, December 24, 2021, at home, held in peace with the love of his family and dedicated caregivers.

Dick carried on with dignity following the death of his beloved wife, Jocelyn ("Joey") Bellows. He leaves four children: Kim May (Jeff May), David Einig, Beth Einig, Anne Toppen (John Toppen); eight grandchildren (Ben, Sam, Jack, Sarah, Kate, Izzy, Carly, and Will); his angel and dearest friend, Shanea Williams; his brother-in-law, Clair Bellows and wife, Donna; nephew Dan Bellows and niece Eve Sedovic, and those with whom he held court, including Frank Purviance, regaling all with endless stories and bountiful gratitude for the abundant blessings of his life.

Born in Kirkwood, Missouri, Dick was the son of Robert and Asenith Einig. He spent his summers in Pana, Illinois with his grandparents, Oliver and Rose. Upon graduation from Kirkwood High, Dick worked for C.F. Vatterott Construction, where he contributed his sharp mind and insatiable curiosity to housing development in north St. Louis County. Dick enlisted in the Army in 1951. He served with honor until 1953 at Camp Desert Rock, Nevada, where he participated in government testing of atomic bombs and was later recognized with distinction as an Atomic Veteran. Dick built a proud career in commercial real-estate at Ira E. Berry, Inc. He started his own companies, Einig & McGuire and Personal Home Mortgage Services, where he helped countless families delight in home ownership.

Dick's favorite times were with Joey, his companion for an evening martini, on his boat, and throughout their world travel. He drove his family in their station wagon around the United States, intent on opening the world to his children. He thrived on big band music and jazz; he loved his grandchildren and filled them with sweet treats and stock tips. His booming voice filled the room and belied a teddy bear softness. Dick was a force, a presence, Joey's "Chief," and a stalwart guide. Peace be with you, Captain.
