Obituary

Richard "Dick" T. Mitchell

Born June 1, 1932, died peacefully May 2, 2022 with his family by his side.

Dick worked for Ryerson Steel for over 35 years. Other than two stints in Chicago, Dick lived his life in St. Louis, the city he loved.  He retired in 1993 as head of human resources. He enjoyed almost 30 years of retirement playing golf and working several part-time jobs at Family Golf Center, Enterprise Rental Car, and The Lodge at Des Peres where he also served as Santa Claus and Dumbledore. He was an active member of St Clement Church for over 50 years coaching sports teams and helping with St Vincent DePaul Society.

Dick served in the US Army and played on the Army's baseball team while stationed in Europe. He was an avid golfer and die-hard Cardinal baseball fan his entire life.

He graduated from Quincy University where he also played baseball but more importantly met the love of his life, Marilyn Burgess. They were married in Quincy Illinois on June 14 , 1958.

Dick is survived by Marilyn, his sister Virginia (Ginny) Karpowicz and his four children, Tim (Renee), Mike (Karen), Meg Ursick (John), Kathleen Boyd (JB) and eight grandchildren, Mollie Mann (Ryan), Emma Mitchell, Zoe Ursick, Mitch Ursick, Patrick Boyd, Sam Boyd, Ellie Boyd, Annie Boyd.

Dick's humor and kindness will be missed.  He will be remembered as a great man with countless friends who treated everyone with acceptance, kindness, love and humor.

All the Best, Big Poppie.
