Robert V. “Bob” Carlson
August 28, 1943 – September 14, 2026

Baptized into the hope of Christ’s resurrection, Monday, September 14, 2026. Beloved husband of Joan M. Carlson (nee Capizzi); dear father and father-in-law of Michael (Melissa) Carlson, Carrie (Jason) Schnuck and Catherine “Katie” (Clinton) Mikel and stepfather of Laura Doyon, Kenneth (Lori Folta) Doyon and Gina (John) Kiefer; loving grandfather of Abby, Kaylee, Chloe, the late Michael, Violet, Oliver, Vivianne, Lily, Hunter, Griffin and Ainsley and step grandfather of the late Alex, Allyson, Jacob, Noah and Lucien; loving great grandfather of Sawyer and step great grandfather of D’Andre, Cassidy and William; dear brother of John (late Pat) Carlson and the late Jeanne Colsen; our dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.

A proud veteran, he served nearly three years in the Vietnam War and carried a deep love for his country all his life. After his service, he built a career in insurance and later found great joy in owning and operating Schottzie's Bar & Grill, which he ran for 24 years before selling it to his son, Mike, who owns and operates it today. He was a lifelong Cardinals fan and a longtime season ticket holder. He loved golf and travel, and some of his favorite destinations were Pebble Creek and the Lake of the Ozarks, where he kept a condo and a boat for many years. He and his wife, Joan, spent many winters as snowbirds in Arizona and on Marco Island, Florida. Staying active was important to him, and for years he made a daily habit of walking many miles. When he was home in St. Louis, he cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Funeral Mass at Incarnate Word Catholic Church, 13416 Olive Blvd., Chesterfield, on Tuesday, September 22 at 11 a.m. with visitation at church 1 hour prior to mass. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society.
