Roman L. Patrick, MD 1932 – 2025
Dr. Patrick was a pathologist whose 40 year medical career included teaching at Duke University Medical School, two years in the Air Force as captain doing research in the cabin atmosphere for space pilots and in St. Louis as a pathologist and partner in Clinical Laboratories, one of the largest and best known medical laboratories in the U.S. The laboratory was acquired by SmithKline Beecham and Dr. Patrick became the medial director for the laboratories in the central U.S.
Dr. Patrick was born in a small fishing village in N.C. bordering the Pamlico Sound. His senor high school class had eleven students. He became a noted pianist and attended the Brevard Music School in the summers and was a special piano student at East Carolina University during his junior and senior high school years.
Roman attended Duke University where he was Phi Beta Kappa and the Duke University Medical School where he was awarded the Alpha Omega Alpha honorary membership. During his medical school years his tuition was covered by playing the 50 bell carillon in the Duke Chapel Tower having studied with Anton Brees, and world famous carillonneur.
Dr. Patrick was preceded in death by his wife and best friend Evelyn Parker Patrick. They were married for 62 years. He is survived by his sons, Mark and Scott and a grandson, Daniel and daughter Heather, died at age 27.
Services will be private. Dr. Patrick donated his body to Washington University Medical School.
