Obituary

Shirley E. Ludwig (nee Michely)
February 18, 1929 – July 18, 2025

Baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection, July 18, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Orville Ludwig; dear mother and mother-in-law of Linda (Joseph) Meyer and John Ludwig; loving grandmother of Danielle (Earl) Anderson, Angela Meyer and Johnny and Art Ludwig; loving great-grandmother of Barrett Anderson; dear sister of the late Walt (late Jean) Michely, late Celeste Michely, late Rose Marie (late Victor) Bafaro, late Norine (late Jerry) Meeker and the late John Michely; our dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend.

A St. Louis resident since 1929, she began working at 13 years old in the kitchen at St. Mary's hospital. Numerous secretarial jobs led to becoming an executive secretary for Mayor Al Cervantes. At one point in her life she was the proud owner of Ludwig's Greetings, Etc., a card and gift shop. She retired at age 69 from her favorite job as Executive Secretary for the President of Fred Weber Construction in 1998.

In the final 5 years of her life, Shirley lived with her daughter Linda and son-in-law Joe, allowing her to enjoy frequent and meaningful time with all of her family and friends. During this time, she was lovingly cared for by her devoted caregiver, Mary, whose exceptional dedication brought great comfort and support. Shirley's life was filled with music, dancing, and roller skating-passions she carried throughout her years. Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra were some of her favorite entertainers. She also found joy in telling jokes and watching classic television shows such as The Andy Griffith Show, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Love Boat, Bonanza, and other MeTV favorites.

Shirley will always be remembered for her kindness, beauty, humor, and caring for others. We will always imagine hearing her say "pretty good for a kid my age!" when asked how she was doing. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those that loved her.
