Susan A.
Emerson
December 1, 2023
Susan A. Emerson (nee Schurk) Baptized into the Hope of Christ's
resurrection on Fri., Dec. 1, 2023
Beloved wife of the late John L. Emerson III; dear mother and mother-in-
law of John (Malika) L. Emerson IV, Stephen J. Emerson and Kevin
Emerson; dear grandmother of Courtney and Billy, Makayla and Zoey; dear
sister of Jack (the late Augustine) Schurk, the late Carol (Urgel) Cartier,
Joseph Schurk, Gerald Schurk, Lois (Bill) Terry, Jim (Dolores Schurk and
Mary Lou Schurk; dear sister-in-law of Jan Emerson and the late Robert (the
late Edith) and (Toni) Emerson; our dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend.
Susan graduated from Nerinx High School and Maryville University both in St. Louis. She was a passionate teacher who helped shape her students' minds and characters for many years. Her classroom presence was gentle and powerful. Sue loved math, literature and grammar, but most of all she cared deeply for her students. She taught for many years in many locations, including Seattle, WA, but the longest of which was as an English teacher at Our Lady of the Presentation ("OLP") school. She also helped students grow in their faith as a Sunday school teacher for many years at OLP and commonly served as a lecture and cantor for masses. But what Sue was most passionate about was her family. Second youngest of eight children, she grew up in a home full of love. And after setting out on her own, she became so much more than an educator, a loving wife, the best mother anyone could ever ask for, and "World's Best Grandma", with the mug that proves it.
