Beloved husband of the late Mary Frances Kimmell (nee Rehwald); dear father and father-in-law of Kyle Kimmell, Kathleen (Rich) Waidmann and Ruth Kimmell; loving grandfather of Zachary Kimmell, Lindsay Kimmell, Stephen Seyer, Ryan (Hope) Kimmell, Chloe Seyer, Matthew Kimmell, Hannah (Wyatt) Waidmann Mesh and Olivia Waidmann; loving great-grandfather of Emersyn Kimmell and Bennett Mesh; dear brother of the late Earl (the late Anne) Kimmell, Jr., Jane (the late Keith) Ernst, Joy (the late Harry) Allemang and the late John (Mary Jo) Kimmell; our dear brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend.
Vern grew up in Vincennes IN, the son of a policeman and homemaker during the Depression. Enlisting in the Navy at 17, he fought bravely and with distinction in epic naval battles of WWII. He graduated from Washington University with Architecture and Structural Engineering degrees. Vern designed & built single family homes, hospitals, churches, retirement communities, hotels in Times Square, and an entire city in Libya during his distinguished 70-year career while working in private practice and for HBE, US Government, Marriott, and State of Maryland. He was a pilot, corvette driver, martini lover, gifted storyteller, attentive husband, always-present father, excellent listener, kind, compassionate, and loving. Vern touched the lives of many during his 99+ years, and will be forever remembered, loved and missed.
Funeral at Concordia Lutheran Church, 505 S. Kirkwood Rd., Kirkwood, MO 63122 on Saturday, December 9 at 2 p.m. with visitation at church from 1 p.m. until time of service. Interment St. Paul's Cemetery, Des Peres, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight, 8050 Watson Rd., Ste. 240, St. Louis, MO 63119.
