Virginia "Ginny"
Blass
July 8, 1923 – June 30, 2024
Virginia M. "Ginny" Blass (nee Pfleinger)
July 8, 1923-June 30, 2024
Virginia M. "Ginny" Blass (nee Pfleinger) peacefully entered her Heavenly Home on June 30, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Harry "Mac" Blass for 52 years; dear and loving mother and mother-in-law of Diane (Edward) Warmann and Barbara (Bruce Emmons) Blass; loving grandmother of Matthew E. (Jennifer) Warmann, Douglas R. (Janice) Warmann and Robert E. (Tina) Warmann; dear great-grandmother of Devin Warmann, Grace and James Bloss, Makenzie, Landon, Hailey and Jason Warmann, Max and Grey Warmann, Alyssa, Madison and Adriana Mapes; our dear sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, great, great aunt, cousin and friend.
Born in St. Louis to Alice and Harry Pfleinger, Ginny and her sister, Norma, enjoyed summer visits to the Hawk Point farm of their aunt. While there, they spent time doing carefree activities like fishing, swimming, throwing apples in burning leaves and retrieving them for a tasty treat, and picking watermelons fresh off the vine. She was a Hadley Technical School graduate.
Soon after meeting Mac at a community dance in 1942, they married. She began working as a patriotic World War II Rosie the Riveter at Curtiss Wright aircraft while U.S. soldiers, who normally filled those positions, were overseas.
After her daughters were born, Virginia became a stay-at-home mom, who was involved in school, church and community. Among many other things, she volunteered as a PTA officer, Brownie leader, a softball coach, and in church activities. During the Christmas season, she worked at the downtown St. Louis Post Office "throwing mail," and she served as an election official at voting polls for over 50 years.
Social activities in which Ginny participated on a regular basis included: bowling teams, volleyball teams, pinochle clubs, community club dancing and the McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing Sages retirees club; but her greatest pride and joy came from spending time with her family. She enjoyed the last year and a half of her life making new friends at Breeze Park in Weldon Spring.
Always thoughtful, outgoing, generous, caring, and loving, Virginia held a special place in all of our hearts. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
