William M.
Alivernia
February 9, 1933 – March 6, 2025
William M. Alivernia February 9, 1933 - March 6, 2025
Beloved husband of Rita (nee Mroczkowski); dear father and father-in-law of Judy (Andy) Jacks and Karen (Bob Chamblin) Alivernia; dear grandfather of Alexander and Hannah (Ryle); dear brother and brother-in-law; uncle and friend to many.
Bill was born in 1933 and lived in North Saint Louis. His father Sam had immigrated from Sicily and mother Grace's family was from Ireland. He attended McBride High School - class of 1951. He was a good brother and remained close to his three siblings and their families all their lives. Bill was raised Catholic and was a practicing Catholic his entire life. He quietly volunteered at Incarnate Word Church for decades.
After enlisting in the Navy and serving during the Korean War, he was assigned shore duty in San Diego. He valued his time in the Navy and appreciated the opportunity to serve and grow.
After his discharge, he felt fortunate to begin a career in the new field of Data Processing. He loved talking about his work history (with plenty of detail).
He met his wife Rita on a blind date in December. They were married that August, 1958 (and enjoyed 66 years of marriage). Bill loved Rita and her large Polish family. They were both natural athletes who enjoyed watching Saint Louis baseball, football (and basketball) games, and bowling in leagues.
Later on, Bill became a wonderful father to Judy and Karen. He was always supportive and interested in their lives. When Andy and Bob entered the scene, he enjoyed their male companionship. In later years, he was a terrific Grandad to Alex and Hannah. He always appreciated spending time with his daughters and their families. He was thrilled to get to know Hannah's fiance, Ryle, last year.
Bill was a special uncle to many. He never missed a chance to gather with local family - nieces and nephews. He always looked forward to connecting with his out-of-town sisters and their families. He truly loved being an uncle to so many amazing people.
He loved visiting local attractions like the riverboats, Arch, Muny, Zoo, Grants Farm and Busch Stadium. Bill was a life-long fan of Cardinals Baseball and Saint Louis football. He was a regular at Hometown Buffet, Spaghetti Factory and Imo's. He was always Saint Louis Proud and loved his city.
Bill was a music lover who enjoyed his albums and CDs. He loved Herb Alpert, Sinatra and the classics. But he also liked Michael Jackson's Thriller and Andrew Lloyd Webber's music of the 1980's - especially Phantom of the Opera. He was a good dancer, as well!
He was a movie buff who watched classic movies, biographies and documentaries nightly - for decades. He also loved Seinfeld and Friends, always laughing when re-telling a bit from an episode.
Bill was one-of-a-kind. A genuinely nice man who touched the lives of many. We already miss him so much.
