Thomas Allen
Matheny
Apr 21, 1945 — Oct 10, 2021
Thomas Allen Matheny suddenly passed away, peacefully, on October 10, 2021, at the age of 76 in his
hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.
Tom was the second-generation owner and CEO of Matheny Heating & Cooling for 40+ years. Tom was a
patriot and served in the USMC. He also served as Chairmen of the Board for the St. Louis Metropolitan
Sewer District, was a one-time candidate for the Missouri State Senate and active member of the
current planning and zoning committee for the City of Des Peres.
Tom was most comfortable enjoying a hot cup of coffee while working a crossword puzzle, texting
memes, and greeting his friends and neighbors from his "executive lounge" in his garage. When he
wasn't socializing with his neighbors, he was busy making "to-do" lists for his family and friends.
Tom was well-known for his thoughtfulness and giving spirit. He had a generous heart and would
literally give you the shoes off his feet and always put the needs of others before his own. He was
notorious for sharing a humorous story or anecdote to lift spirits and relieve tension of those around
him. Tom was enthralled with St. Louis history and would often amaze those around him with his
extensive knowledge. He loved his family immensely and was the glue that held it together.
Loving husband of Julie Goessling-Matheny; dear son of the late O.R and Myrtle Matheny; loving father
of Robin (Frank) Ford, Ryan (Melissa) Matheny; beloved Grandfather of Courtney, Kyle, and Luke Ford,
Tyler and Syndey Matheny. Beloved brother to William (Bonnie) Matheny, Robert (Nancy) Matheny and
proceeded in death by sister Carolyn (Preston) Figge.
