Our History
The Ortmann Funeral home located in Overland, MO was founded by Al C. Ortmann. Al grew up in the Creve Coeur area with the family farm being located near what is now Westport Plaza. Al and his wife, Mary, moved from the small farming community to Overland to open his new business in 1935. After Al's death in 1974, the responsibility of operating the family funeral home fell upon his son, Robert A. Ortmann, and son-in-law, Sam S. Stipanovich. In 1997, Bob and Sam decided to expand the business. With the economic growth and success of Creve Coeur over the years, they chose to return to Al's hometown and serve the needs of Creve Coeur and surrounding communities. The Ortmann Stipanovich Funeral Home located at 12444 Olive Blvd. in Creve Coeur opened in April of 1998.
The Ortmann & Stipanovich families are now in the third generation of funeral directors with the addition of Mike Stipanovich and Tom Ortmann. With the current market trend of large, out of state conglomerates entering the St. Louis area and purchasing funeral homes, the Ortmann and Stipanovich families believe in the importance of maintaining and stabilizing small family owned and operated businesses in our community. We also believe that a funeral establishment run with family values instead of corporate "return on investment" ideals is in the best interest of the families we serve. Our family strives to gain your trust and confidence by treating the families we serve with dignity, respect and care.
